Atlanta, GA & The PGA

Above, our group of volunteers meet under the tree near the green of the 11th hole and tee of # 12.  We were assigned to #12 for the week and had about 20 other volunteers covering the par 5 throughout the event week.  The PGA this year was held at the Atlanta Athletic ClubWe had four morning shifts and had to be at the tree at 7 each morning but were relieved at 1130, so it wasn't all the bad.  It was plenty warm and humid by 10 each morning, but knowing Atlanta and August, we made sure we could get the early shifts and be back at the motorhome before the heat was too much.
Above, looking at the #11 green and the mini-scoreboard just to the left.  I am standing right around our meeting tree.  Below is looking up the fairway-hill of #11.
Below, looking up the hill at #12 tee box.
Most of you could give a hoot about the PGA, or any other golf tourney, and that's ok.  Nancy and I enjoy the outdoors and the comraderie of all the volunteers and the various venues we visit while volunteering at these events.  And this blog serves as a log of our time here at the 2011 PGA at the Atlanta Athletic Club.  Anyway, here are afew other pics we took on Monday thru Wednesday.  Below I caught Sergio Garcia kicking a ball someone had thrown onto the tee box for him to sign.  He didn't, but had a little fun sending it back soccer style.  Everyone got a laugh including the owner of the ball.

Above is the 18th green.
Must be "adjusted" before taking the next swing!  Below, Rory Mclroy doing chin-ups on a tree branch on hole #12.
Below, VJ Singh practicing out of a sand trap.
Above, Phil Mickelson and below Dustin Johnson.
Below, hole #12 early in the AM.
Below, Darren Clark, British Open champion, getting a smoke in before the next swing.
And of course, John Daly below, always colorful and always serious about his golf.
Even his bag is colorful, which has a radio and a cooler.
Below, always good to practice those sand shots.
Below, Jim Furyk
Above, Jim has his back to us as he watches the Chatahootchie River meander by.

OK, thus ends our visit to the PGA in Atlanta.  The next golf outing we'll volunteer will be the AT&T Pro-Am in Monterey Pebble Beach in February.  RVing hit the road again on Sept 1 about three weeks ago, so we will be doing some "catch-up" soon on our journeys thru New England chasing the fall foliage.  We have lots of pics to share with our followers.  Till then, Joe & Nancy.  This blog written from Montpelier, Vermont.
